California collision reports are released by the agency that took the report, to parties of proper interest.

Find the agency on the record. For a California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, ask the CHP Area office that took it; any CHP Area office can release it.
For a CHP report, fill in the CHP 190 request form and send it in person or by mail to the Area office with the fee. For a report by a city police department or sheriff, ask that agency's records unit; many sell through LexisNexis BuyCrash.
Say which crash you mean: the date and the place, and the report number 9835-2025-01072.
Reports for fatal or criminal cases take longer, so ask the office before you travel.

Fee: at cost (CHP: $10 per 25 pages)
Wait: about 7 to 10 business days
Who can ask: Parties of proper interest under Vehicle Code 20012: drivers, passengers, injured persons, vehicle and property owners, and their attorneys and insurers. There is no public copy.

We publish the state's public crash data. The full officer's report is sold by the state or the agency; we do not hold or sell it.
