Who can get the report

Delaware State Police treat crash reports as confidential: they are not public records under the Freedom of Information Act. The State Police page does not list who may request one.

Where to request it

Requests go to the Delaware State Police Traffic Operations Section by mail only; walk-in requests are not accepted. Mail your request to PO Box 430, Dover, DE 19903. Questions go to 302-739-5931.

For a crash handled by a city police department, such as the Wilmington Police Department, ask that department.

What you need

  • A copy of your collision information exchange form
  • Payment by check or money order

Fees and timing

A standard report costs $25. A report on a fatal crash costs $60. The State Police do not state how long a request takes.

If the report is not filed yet

Before you mail your request, you can call the Traffic Operations Section at 302-739-5931 to ask whether the report has been completed.
