How to Get Your Oregon Crash Report

Oregon police crash reports come from the DMV for $8.50, and only to people who qualify under state privacy law. Here is how to request one.

Who can get the report

Oregon releases police crash reports only to people who qualify under ORS 802.175 to 802.191: a party to the crash, or someone with a permitted use under the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act.

Where to request it

Send the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services (DMV) Request for Information, form 735-7122, asking for a photocopy of the police traffic crash report. DMV2U, the DMV's online service, is for filing your own crash report, not for buying a police report.

City police departments keep their own records. The Portland Police Bureau takes requests through the city's public records portal.

What you need

  • The date of the crash
  • The county or the nearest city
  • Information about a driver involved

The DMV cannot find a report by the police report number, so include the date and place.

Fees and timing

The DMV charges $8.50 for a photocopy of a police crash report. The fee is charged even if no report is found. Ask the DMV how long your request will take.

If the report is not filed yet

Because the fee is charged either way, check with the agency that responded to the crash that the report has been filed before you send the form.
