How to Get Your Utah Crash Report

Utah Highway Patrol crash reports are requested through the Department of Public Safety records portal after you verify your identity. Here is how.

Updated

Who can get the report

You verify your identity on the Utah Department of Public Safety records portal before you can view police records. The Highway Patrol does not publish who may receive a report.

Where to request it

On the Utah Highway Patrol crash reports page, choose Start Report Request. It opens the Department of Public Safety GovQA records portal, where you create an account and verify your identity.

County and city agencies keep their own reports. The Weber County Sheriff's Office, for example, sells reports through LexisNexis BuyCrash.

What you need

  • The date of the crash
  • The location
  • The case number, if you know it

Fees and timing

The Highway Patrol does not publish the fee or the wait on its page, so ask when you make your request. You are emailed when the report is ready.

If the report is not filed yet

Wait for the email from the records portal. If the report cannot be found, ask the agency that responded to the crash whether it has been filed.
